The Blank Sun? 14th July

Post by marktownley »

The usual websites tell me the sun is blank, well that just depends what wavelength you're looking in. The active region mid disk has plenty going on, just no sunspots. Given it is possible to see the magnetic field lines in the plasma indicating 2 poles the lack of spots means the field strength is less than 1500 Gauss, generally accepted as the minimum for sunspot formation.

This double stacked view was taken with a Lunt50 etalon on the ED60 scope, stepping down to 50mm gives a nice f7 light cone which is then fed into the daystar Quark. The end result is a nice contrasty view. Camera used was the IMX249 chipped PGR.

Given i'm running at just 50mm aperture i'm pretty pleased with the results.

Hope you like.

Mark

Excellent images, Mark

Too bad you didn't make the image in the CaK line! CaK will be even more dramatic/impressive.

Hi Mark,

nice images. That area showed some small spots in WL en Solar Continuum. Made some images but they are not that good due to very bad seeing. Can't upload them now because I am doing some maintenance on my main computer.

Regards,

Paul

You certainly do get some lovely, clean and detailed images from the 50mm :bow I could do with getting more out of my 40mm ;)
