Another from 14th of July

Post by PDB »

Hi,

very very bad seeing ... but with lots of post processing managed to get something out.

The following ones would normally go to the bin. Taken with the C8. But just to show some small spots (or just darker cells?) in that area from first image. Still most sources are reporting now 20 spotless days. How big does a spot need to be before it counts?

Edit: seems these are called "penumbral spots". If so then they can't be used to calculate the Wolf number.

Pity about the conditions, Paul. Good captures in bad seeing.

Fantastic pics Paul, glad to see you back :hamster:

I think these are pores, they need to have a penumbra to be called a spot.

some seem to call these "spots" depending on the length of time they are visible (If you go to spaceweather history on 14th and 15th and zoom in, there was something there on those 2 days). But will not argue about the naming, not enough knowlegde.

Thanks for the comments Stu, Mark & Alexandra.

P.
