Much to Mrs T's annoyance I decided to be up early this morning, just after 4am to be precise, with a view to getting the scope setup before dawn so that I was ready to observe as soon as the sun was high enough in the sky. As I drunk my coffee and looked at the moon, despite the cloud free skies forecast clouds rolled in, initially making for a lovely red sunrise but they didn't budge for a couple of hours until just before 9am. By this point the seeing was getting worse as time went by as can be seen in the graph below:
seeing by Mark Townley, on Flickr
I started off in Ha, and, have to say are gobsmacked the result putting the 0.7x edge HD reducer on the HaT infront of the Quark - that is compared to it having an f10 beam, it really does prefer the f7 light cone, contrast on screen is considerably higher. AR12717 seems quieter than yesterday...

I then switched to the Na Quark, same f7 configuration, however by then the seeing was too bad, I need better seeing for Na than Ha, despite running quite a number of exposures this is the best I got:

Camera was the PGR IMX249, fingers crossed for no pesky clouds tomorrow morning...

Re: AR12717 With The HaT - 5th August
Mark,
Rough seeing!
are you running the Hat with a standard Quark? With the 4.3 built in telecentric, instead of a combo and the Airylab 2.7 telecentric. Without reducer that would give f/43 and be fairly high. At least I noticed even going from f/6 to f/8.3 contrast gets better, but also every flaw in the Quark tends to get more visible.

Re: AR12717 With The HaT - 5th August
Thanks Paul, yeah, the seeing is rough!
It's a standard Quark with the 4.3x telecentric, it definitely works better with the HaT and 0.7x reducer to give the f7 light cone feeding the Quark. The 2.79x Airylab telecentric (designed for the HaT) doesn't give as good a result with my Quark, same as with the Baader 4x telecentric. I'm definitely sticking with HaT, 0.7x reducer then 4.3x Quark, best results out of all the combinations i've tried.

Hi Mark...
Unfortunate that your early planning and setup were negated by the clouds. The Ha and Na images look great despite the poor seeing.

Nice early start, Mark and good results, despite the conditions.

Thanks guys, hoping to get some clear skies first thing in the morning to catch the better seeing.

Re: AR12717 With The HaT - 5th August
Sounds just like what happened to me, I had the C11 in the greenhouse all night (just so it is perfectly cooled for immediate use) but it was cloudy! they forecast a clear morning the cloud eventually lifted around 9.30 to 10am by which time the seeing was off.
More great images from the HaT, very promising. The Sodium is also very interesting, almost like 3D granulation

Re: AR12717 With The HaT - 5th August
Thanks everyone!
The clouds have been doing this a lot lately Alexandra, clear till sunrise then clouds come in that don't clear till mid morning / lunch when the heat of the day has driven the seeing through the roof...
