Heya,
Not a lot of proms today, but one really nice grouping. Seeing was decent between the clouds today, maybe the turbulence of the summer is finally calming. This was later in the day for me, which is abnormal, so maybe it was a fluke. I was able to image at the full scale of the 6 inch refractor that I was using to try and resolve more of the prominence grouping and since I saw finger-like spicules on the limb, I figured seeing must be decent. Not a lot of other features to really look at, so just spent time on the prominence and then fooled around with the active region a little too and looked at the convection cells in white light using a near UV filter to increase contrast of the convection cells.

I have some weird results on a few too.
I'm not sure if I was off-band due to temperatures (it was way too hot today) or if it was just good seeing and a wider bandpass due to single stack or what, but it looks like convection cells leaking through to the chromosphere blending the two. They are present without any sharpening or anything, so it's not just artifact. My guess is off band and leaking?

Top shots Marty! The last ones are off band and it is just continuum leakage coming through, hence why you can see the granules. The sun looks pretty much overhead where you are.

I love the prominences and convection cells, Marty

Thanks!
Figured i was off-band. First time it happened. Everything was so hot yesterday, even the camera felt hot. I guess at Zenith the sun is pouring even more heat with less atmosphere and I wasn't blocking all of it well enough? Might be time for a full aperture DERF.... sigh!
