Sun in K and CaH Sept. 5th & 6th

Few images of yesterday and today of the Sun at short wavelengths, there are no major features to image therefore I am using my imaging time for experiments.

As suggested elsewhere I removed from my Baader K filter one of the two glasses and I have to admit that images are better defined in this way. Also I replaced the defective BF of my Quark with the same K filter and an Astronomik UV/IR cut (but I left the blue glass in place and removed only the clear glass). The system works fine and this mod solved some problems of unevenness in my images.

I can't do any better than the above with my current setup, so I definitively need a more narroband device(s) and a better corrected scope than my short achromat. For the latter I could use my Mewlon 210 with a front ERF, as suggested by Valery, but I have to consider if the mean seeing at my observing site would allow to make use of such a large aperture.

Can I ask what exactly you did to your Baader K line? I find I cannot use mine as it is optically blurred and I wondered if this was a potential way to fix it?

This is true for for images taken with small telescopes and respectively at small scales. With 8" and up telescopes images at 393nm (contimuum) and especially Ca K/H are full of interesting details. Short living filigrees and pores (also short living) at 393nm and great dramatism at CaK and CaH.

If to stay with 100m telescope, then yes, these years of sun minimum are boring. The easiest way is to stop, yes.

Here is the image taken with C9,25" telescope when testing a new 240mm DERF filter. This is one of many similar areas on the sun every day.

Yes, Valery, I know the limitations of a 100 mm aperture and that there are lot of details to be imaged with larger apertures. However before to purchase a front ERF for my Mewlon I am trying to better evaluate the average seeing at my location in order to be sure that is worth the expense, should I conclude positively on this I'll make this step in the very near future ;)

Alexandra, as you know Baader K line is actually composed by two glasses, the upper one tilted to the other by means of a plastic spacer which is thicker on one side. As I now use it mainly as a part of my Quark BF I removed one of the glasses and I noted that sharpness increased through it. Moreover in this way the front thread of the filter barrel remains free for further stacking.

Great results and I think your seeing must be good to get granulation like that with 130mm aperture. No boring at all!

@Robert: at my location seeing is good for imaging granulation in K line until about 2 hours from sunrise then quickly deteriorates and only H alpha or continuum imaging is possible. In summer the sky is also slightly hazy and this makes images noisy if the Sun is not enough high.

Super images and nice modifications in your setup.
At home my biggest aperture scope is the 102mm f/9 Meade and the 102mm f/7 Stellarvue, as also the Solarmax 90-DS., so I am getting to the same point you are now, though at the rural observatory I have a 6" f/12 refractor and catadiopric scopes up to 12", so I better start imaging the Sun with bigger scopes.

Thanks Eric. In a rural location you should be able to enjoy a better seeing than mine as I live in a large city and only rarely I move my scopes. My larger instrument is a 210 mm Takahashi Mewlon.

I live in a 400.000 city and my scope is at about 1.3m above ground level. I can meet good enough seeing several times in a months (warm season) and only between 1,5 - 2 hours from the sunrise for CaK and up to 2.5 hours for H-a.

BTW 210mm in CaK is a very powerfull instrument - like C14 in H-a !!!
