Return of the SPOD
Hiya folks,
Looking to get the SPOD back up and running. Would be using the excellent images that are posted here on this forum. I'm also looking to be able to use an animation as SPOD image too.
I'm interested in any suggestions / ideas / comments etc that people have. Where possible will take everything on board...

Re: Return of the SPOD
I think having SPOD is great, and being able to look at an archive of past SPODs as time goes by would be really cool.
Very best,

It would be great, Mark. May I suggest to add a link to the collection of all SPODs once published.

Re: Return of the SPOD
I think what will do is create a new section in the forum - 'SPOD Archive' or something like that, and then copy the topic with the spod in there, then any additional images and discussion will be captured too. I can copy the image from the thread to the forum header then... That's the plan...

Re: Return of the SPOD
Hi Mark...
Great to see the SPOD back!!!
I have a suggestion that the in addition to the image, note the person who created the material, and maybe a link to the post it came from. Sometimes hard to follow posts after a few days of absence, and if archived they can be followed back to the original post again.

Re: Return of the SPOD
Linking SPOD with the source would be ideal, if possible, Mark, and a specific SPOD index topic for easy access to past SPODs would be desirable.

Re: Return of the SPOD
I've created a new section you will see on the main board - SPoD archive.
It makes it quick and easy to 'copy' the original thread with the SPoD image into here, if I understand it correctly as comments are populated on the thread in either section they should appear in both. It's 'suck em and see' at the moment - so bear with me!
Regards the actual SPoD image on the front page, am I reading right that people want it to hyperlink directly to the thread the SPoD image appears in? so, if you click on it takes you to the thread? People also want the persons name on there too? how about a date? This is the bit I need to think about a bit more, at the moment I have to delve into the code in the bowels of the forum to do, which I can, but the less time I spend dipping in and out of the code etc is better as I don't want to muck anything up! If anyone has any suggestions as to alternative ways i'm all ears.

Re: Return of the SPOD
Hmmm, just did a test post - looks like when I copy a thread into the spod archive, it just copies the post as is - a snapshot, additional posts to the original aren't added to the duplicate post in the SPoD.
So, would people prefer this, or would prefer if the whole post is just moved into the SPoD archive so that all comments are captured there? It's your forum folks so is what you think?

Re: Return of the SPOD
Hi Mark...
The note with credit to Valery for the photo and date works well enough, and one can go back to posts from that date to find the original, or the post in the archive.
I can't help with the coding, but looks good so far!!
