Sol from the 17th of November 2018.

Post by eroel »

Hi:
Went to the rural observatory, it was sunny but the seeing very jumpy, so I used the 6" f/12 AP refractor at f/24 with the ATM Daystar.
Thanks for looking the not oriented solar Saturday session.
Regards,
Eric.

A fine set of images, Eric. Lovely prom details.

Fantastic detail in the proms, Eric, but all the rest came out great also. Sunspot and surface.

A very successful session !

Wow! you really are a pro at getting those extremely faint proms and getting them crisp as well :bow how do you maintain a fast shutter speed and still get the faint ones? I find that if you increase the shutter speed the proms become smoothed and not crisp (too much atmospheric smear), but if you raise the gamma or gain you just get noise and artifacts instead. You have a perfect balance or the perfect camera :)

Alexandra and guys:

Thanks for looking and for the much appreciated comments.

Alexandra, the SKYnyx 2-2 camera is an old design with very clean electronics but slow fps, it just gets to 12 fps at full resolution of the chip.
For recording I use the Lucam-Recorder software with gama at 60 for the "Surface" (moving the tilter on the ATM filter and looking for the most even FOV) and between 100 to 200 for the "Prominences", but then looking for the best overall rendition without going to extremes, and also tweak a bit the tilter on the ATM Daystar filter, so to get the cleanest prom rendition even if the FOV is not even (don´t care because all the "Surface" is overexposed).

For processing, I always do the same workflow. (AS!3, Registax6, PS, Maxim DL)

Seeing is reasonable most of the time at the rural observatory, but that day it was a bit jumpy and windy. Next time I will take the SSM to find out how is the seeing, though it is always better than in México City. (both places are high, my home observatory is at 2271 meters above mean sea level and the rural observatory is at 2265meters)

Best regards to all,
Eric.
