First image from my eclipse set
Good day everyone...
The clear weather will hold on through tomorrow, so I was treated to the first total lunar eclipse I've seen in years. Due to the cold weather (-26C + 30Kmh wind that still managed to swirl around the inside of the dome), I limited my time to about an hour at the scope to photograph totality.
Below is a quick pic from a series close to mid eclipse...Canon 60D/Stellarvue 110ED and what is likely a 3.2 or 5 second exposure, but I need to double check the details to be sure.
Now, time to warm up by the fire and call it a night.
Brian

That's brilliant Brian! I got up a few times in the night but was cloudy throughout for me, nice to see your image.

Re: First image form my eclipse set
Wow!!! well done to brave the cold and have clear skies I dreamt that I saw it
I was very disappointed, the flat iron grey skies were still there at 3.30am.

Re: First image from my eclipse set
Great image, Brian, nice and sharp. I was out briefly too just passed midnight with a point and shoot camera and took some images, not sure yet if anything worth came out. Here it was a balmy 12 degrees, I had to stay totally covered to avoid frostbite during the 20 minutes I was out

Re: First image from my eclipse set
Maurits and Franco...
Thanks for your feedback...it was nice to get a full eclipse after missing several with poor weather and timing.
Maurits, the camera tends to enhance the red compared to the eye but the image was not adjusted for any colour balance. To my eye it was certainly red but not quite this much.
Franco...the cold certainly added a challenge to the event. My temp was equivalent to about -15F, but no matter the scale it was damn cold

Re: First image from my eclipse set
Excellent image, Brian. Beautiful.
As with Mark and Alexandra, I was clouded out. I got up a couple of times in the night to check, with no luck. It turned foggy in the morning just to really ensure that I didn't see anything.

David and Eric...thanks for your feedback on the image, always appreciated!!!
David, I'll admit it was cold but it wasn't something I could defer to a warmer night...lots of other observers in southern Ontario braved the cold too. On the bright side there were no mosquitoes

Re: First image from my eclipse set
Hi Derek...
Thanks for your feedback on the eclipse pic!!!
I was thinking of how different the temps were here compared to Australia over the weekend. We have been getting updates from our niece who is on a co-op work term in Canberra since around Christmas. I see on the news tonight how it is in the mid 40's deeper into the South Australia Territory with rivers and crops drying up as well as taking its toll on wild animals and livestock. Hopefully there is some relief soon.
I told my niece before she left to be prepared for hot weather, and she messaged my daughter last night to say she now appreciated the cold a bit more!
Hopefully the heat doesn't affect you too much or for long and cut the honey crop if the pants are drought stressed.
Brian
