Ca-K from 17th

Post by David_The_Bears_Fan »

First Ca-K image of 2019 last week. Sun just gets high enough in the sky now for me to be able to train my scope on it if the skies are clear around midday!

Full disk using Skywatcher Evostar 120 (achro) / ASI178MM / Lunt B1200 diagonal. This is a 6 pane mosaic built from 6*500 frame captures, 55 frames stacked for each pane and then stitched in Autostitch.

Single pane of the lone prom. 55 frames from 1000 exposing for prominences rather than "surface" details.

After buying the ASI178MM last year I discovered my laptop was not really up to the load and could barely get 30 frames per second. I upgraded the laptop in November which now gives me 60FPS at 2500x2080. Need more practice so I can now start to get the best of the 178, couldn't really do that when I was struggling to get any sort of decent frame rate. Just need the weather to perk up - some hope!

These are great David :bow you did well to stitch 6 panes flawlessly when there are so few surface features. I must say I didn't realise it was a mosaic until you said.

Thanks to all for your kind comments :bow2
@Bart1805 - No, I don't use PS at all, I use Autostitch to create the mosaic after sharpening each pane in ImPPG and then make any final adjustments in GIMP.
@MarkTownley - Yes, had a bit of break back end of last year but back on it now and enjoying more than ever!
