Februari 19

Post by MAURITS »

Telescope 150mm with Baader D-ERF, extensions, Quark chromosphere, 0.5x reducer and ASI 174 MM.
No newton rings to see (no tilter or eliminator used).

This is the first time that I have a recording all in one time.
The post processing from the surface and prominence is from the same recording.

At the first sight, all was oké.
The gray scale image is I think well, except the white ring around the edge (I don't know where this come from) ?
The color version is total different from my previous method, when I had two recordings (one surf. and one prom.), however with the same color settings. Hmm stranges results … but oké.

I don't know what the "fog" is around the edge ...???

I do believe that my Quark is a good one anyway. :)

Maurits,
Nice images. The surface texture looks good and the prom showed up well. The white ring (dreaded double limb) has been enhanced when the surface is inverted. This can be toned down some by adjusting the curves where it transitions to the inverted surface. The fog around the limb sometimes shows up when darkening the sky and trying to brighten the proms quickly. This can be minimized in processing. Also, Quarks for some reason can produce a fog or haziness on one side. Try rotating the Quark while keeping the cameras position fixed. I have marked my Quark so it's easy to position for the best prom capture. Sometimes sky conditions can result in the foggy appearance.

Phil

These are great and I am glad everything is working OK :bow

Sometimes the fog can happen if you have the gamma set too high or the sky conditions are slightly milky (not enough to see by eye).

NIce limb image and prom. Agree with Astrophil about the fog, I noted it depends much on sky conditions and on how much the brightness has been increased to show the faintest parts of proms. In most cases I am able to correct the problem during processing, but not always, sometimes I have to accept a compromise. Note that the focal reducers can increase this issue.

I have the above images again reprocessed.
I have attempted to improve the white border.

This is the same prom as before (images above), but I tweak out more details in Imppg.

Great images Maurits, and the adjusted processing cleaned up the images which helps cut the limb glare. Well done :bow
