Sunny Feb 21, 2019

Post by Astrophil »

Greetings All,

I managed to capture a full disk image with the PST, finally. It is harder than I thought it would be and still needs a lot of work to get it right. Todays filament is growing in length and would not fit the frame using the 6' scope. I got a piece of it though.

Fantastic image for a 6" aperture telescope! Resolution and processing are excellent. Never saw such images taken by amateur in North America.

You definitely have such a seeing that require a larger aperture to use it's full potential!

Larger aperture is a new much more difficult challenge because you will need to work in a shorter cadences to freeze proper motions of solar detail. This require fastest camera and shorter exposures and the Seeing Scintillations Monitor can be a great help. But such a step in aperture is well worth of efforts and investments.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for the kind comments. I think it turned out pretty good as well. It was the first video processed and after seeing the results, I called it quits for the day. As per most of your earlier comments I kept the image on the softer, smoother side. Thanks for the tips.
Valery, well that was quite the compliment, thank you. I'm looking into acquiring a larger scope someday but it will require not only the OTA. I will need another mount, camera, computer, operating system, programs, a place to store and means to transport plus a larger D-ERF. I wish that I could rent a system. In the meantime I'll be watching Marty's progress.
