Hi guys,newbie from Norway here.
Just got my self a cheap solar wedge to see if this is something for me , and i have read that no filter should go in front of the wedge, but still i have read that someone puts the uv/ir filter in front, maybe this filter doesen't stop the heat from going through?
Could this be right? Or did i read this wrong? Mine is threaded in the front.
Haven't used mine yet , due to heavy rain.
Thanks in advance.
All the best.
G

More important than the UV-IR is the mandatory ND3 filter.
You can fit an UV-IR after the ND3 if you feel concerned.

Re: Were to put uv/ir filter?
The ND3 filter is preinstalled , so no problem there :-)
But i have been Reading a lot on forums regarding the use of diffrent kind of filters , and how some can help on contrast , and since i already have some of them , i thought i would try to use them.
I have an eyepiece extension tube that i can use for a filter, since my filters can't be stacked / screwed into each other .
And that is the reason i asked about mounting the uv/ir filter in front , as i wouldn't need to use the extension tube , but since my solar wedge didn't come With a user manual , i read other brands manual ,and they say no mounting of a filter in front of the wedge.
But i read that some do it anyway with the uv/ir filter , that's why i asked.
I thought i try a #green 56 (don't have #58) paired With the uv/ir filter , but i also have cls , uhc , variable polarizing filter , 2 other polarizing filters and a coloured filter set/kit and my Club has a lot of others that i may be allowed to test out before i buy my own , if i find them to work , crazy prizes on some of them.
The Scope i will test out is an achromat ,Aquila 90 / 500 , but i also have an sky watcher st 120 i could use , but i would have to take it Down since the recomended size is 100 mm.

Re: Were to put uv/ir filter?
Welcome here,
My UV/IR filter is in the front of the wedge on telescope side, the other filters ND3, Baader Continuum (lime green) in the back of the wedge on eyepiece side.

I'd use the uv/ir on the front of the wedge...

Re: Were to put uv/ir filter?
Welcome to the group!
In my case, I have the UV/IR cut filter and Baader continuum filter installed at the bottom of the eyepiece holder so that I can switch form eyepiece to camera without having to change the filters.

Re: Were to put uv/ir filter?
Thanks guys , that helped a lot , tried to take some Pictures today , but i zoomed in to much i think ,using a canon 1000D.
Well i have to keep Learning .
Visual was good , but not much action .
I will have to experiment With both eyepieces and filters, but will leave my uv/ir filter at the front of the wedge.
i will probably buy the Baader Continuum filter , but i have to wait a while since i spent to much lately
Thanks for Your help.
All the best.
