March 9th - Ha Images

Post by MapleRidge »

Good evening all...

I managed to spend a few hours at the observatory yesterday and tried imaging through many scopes and focal lengths. As it turned out, the best images came from the LS80T/DSII and modded CR-150/DSII scopes. Results from the 25cm Meade ACF OTA left a lot to be desired...mainly from deteriorating seeing and increasing winds as the morning advanced.

The image below is the FD Ha composite of separate disk and limb images taken with the LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha solar scope and PGR camera (limb inverted):

AR 2734 continued to be the main attraction, and the mosaic below covers disk, including the AR and the un-named region of activity to its SE. Image from the CR150/DSII/B1800Ha modded scope and the ASI174MM camera:

I am still trying to find any images worth processing from the large scope...I'll post them later if any turn out.

The photo below shows the scopes looking over the observatory wall, including the Meade 25cm/Daystar ERF, CR-150, iStar 150, and Lunt LS80T. To be honest, this is pushing the weight limits on the GM100 mount but it pulled thorough! I need more counter weights if this stays in this configuration.

Eric and Mark...

Thanks for your feedback on the images and observatory setup...always appreciated :bow

Eric, a trip to NEAF is planned so I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who can make it again this year.

Beautiful images, Brian. Still too much snow on the ground here to set up any of the scopes... Franco

Great to see views of the Sun and your telescopes too, wow! I didn't realise you had so many stuck together :bow

We have gone back to winter again here after a lovely warm February, now we are getting gales after gales and taking a real battering. The next one is overnight tonight :(

Thanks again for your comments Alexandra!!!

The large aperture project has not performed well, but I have not had the time to spend sorting out the best setup either. Hopefully I can get more time as the weather warms up. The mount does not usually have the 10" sandwiched in the middle, but I wanted to be able to switch form different scopes/filters without a lot of work changing things over. From a weight perspective, the C9.25 Edge is much lighter and likely to be the long term scope if the large aperture carries on.

Lovely images. Nice setup, Brian. Lots of 'eyes on the skies' there.
