Hi,
this cycle 24 spot popped up yesterday. Luckely there was plenty of sunshine this morning, but by the time gear was setup, clouds started to roll in. So I had to wait for some non-cloudy periods. (And there were a few )
Used the Skywatcher 120 wit Astrosolar 3.8. (with the Quark ready for the trash can, back to basics) Did some modifications on the focusmotor I built for the 80mm, and now could also automate de Baader Diamond Steeltrack focuser i placed on the 120 to replace the rubbish it was equiped with. (Well it's a cheap scope and as long as optics are ok)
-with Baader Solar Continuum
(click or open in new tab for larger size)
-with Astronomic 2C red filter
(click or open in new tab for larger size)
By the time i wanted to start a full disk mosaic, clouds rolled in again and end of session
combined both in an animation (not perfect, still bit jumpy)
Rgrds,
Paul

Wow! these are nice, a definite difference with the red filter, much more haziness around the spots where the granulation is less well defined
So, what happened with the Quark dare I ask

Hi Alexandra,
yes you may ask. Quark started to show some hazy fields, like some deposit which I tried to clean, but there was nothing on the outside of the filter, so that did not help. Looked like some "dirt" or deterioration somewhere in between layers. (and when not in use, Quark is alwast stored in the container with silica gel) Visually you also see some circles like waterdroplets and now also some bright crescent moon shapes. (much like in this story: https://www.star-gazing.co.uk/WebPage/g ... not-quark/ )
The first one I had did not get on temperature anymore, instead of repairing (that was a good one) they replaced it. This one gets fairly hot. The replacement came in last year during winter (direcly from CDG airport) in freezing weather. I wonder if that has had any impact. (freezing and solid etalons do not go together)
Anyway, still thinking how to handle this, sending it back is not free of charge either, and when it comes back you rsic to have to pay import taxes again. Maybe I'll start saving for a Solar Spectrum (will take me only 5 years ... )

yes. First thought of some unsharpness caused by AS!3 (happens sometimes you get these areas) but inspection of single frames in the SER file (the sharp ones) showed this was really there.much more haziness

Good results Paul, the continuum image works the best in my eyes.
