AR2736 - 2019-03-21

Post by PDB »

Beginning of spring and some action on the Sun. (Already since yesterday, but clouds, today clouds but with some holes ...)

Ar2736 with Astrosolar ND3.8 and SC continuum. Bad, bad seeing so SSM was helpfull.

Did a new try with the Quark. Looks good except for the massive "cloudy areas" left and on top of of AR2736 which is still visible after flats, and extra synthetic flat ...

Alexandra: to give an idea what is wrong look at this flat (adapted contrast a bit to make it more visible) These circles is something inside, also clearly visible with visual use.

Paul:
Nice shots in spite of seeing and the Quark problem.
Best regards,
Eric.

Nice shots Paul, the SSM certainly helps in the fight with poor seeing.

Interesting that flat. The size of the 'bunnies' says to me that they are near the blocking filter end of the telecentric (objective end), it might be worth unscrewing the blocker and seeing if you can see the culprit durge at that end of the telecentric. Unscrewing and cleaning the first elements of the telecentric may sort it.

Thanks Eric/Franco/Marc

Marc: sound like a good idea, need to get one of the special Torx bits. (think it's a TR torx; have hundreds of bits in my toolcase, but not that one)
Should look up that formula again to calculate the distance of dustbunnies. At my age, always have to go back to the books ... ;)

Nice images, Paul, despite the problems with seeing and dust bunnies. That’s a heck of a complex spot system.

Wanted to emphasis on what's wrong with the Quark, so did not pay attention tho the setting of the tuning dial.

What scope did you use with the WL Paul?

It was a Skywatcher 120 f8.3 achromat. With the focuser replaced with a Baader Diamomd Steeltrack (and selfconstructed motor)
Used AstroGenika and the autofocus module. Worked liked a charm with this focuser/motor.

Nice results from that scope Paul, I think Dave uses the same one for his CaK images. I'm quite tempted by one and then upgrade the focuser like you've done. I think it offers great value for money.

That's indeed a value for money scope. Think paid mine around €370, but now I have seen prices around €335) The focuser was also around that price.
Haven't tested it in blue yet, so don't know for Cak.
Think Marty used to have the same scope (but the Celestron branded version) before he switched to the 150 version.
