CaK Full Disk & New Active Region 31st March

Post by marktownley »

In true fashion after being at work all week in clear skies the weekend was cloudy, so decided to head off on the boat on friday night for some frivolities on the canal, returning today knowing the weather forecast was giving out clear skies for late sunday afternoon. Winds were from the east and so late afternoon meant the western half of the sky was hazy and still cloudy despite the eastern aspect being nice and blue. I persevered with the portable setup, the Skywatcher AZ GTI with the 40mm scope, 2x cemax barlow and the FLIR GH3 ICX814 camera. Skywatchers instructions for setup for this are awful, and there are a number of permutations one can mount the scope which the multi star alignment then does its magic, however in the daytime we only have one star, I need to do more research on setup...

I was really pleased to see this new activity on our star, when I looked on GONG this morning there was nothing, and only Rafs post on here alerted me to it, urging me to setup and take a look. The clocks went forward this morning and British Summer Time has begun which means the evenings are lighter and fingers crossed will be able to observe after coming home from work - woohoo!

Super sharp images, Mark, the colour version is very beautiful.

That small AR has evolved much since I observed it this morning.

Nice FDs, Mark. I was down your way today and thought you’d be out in the Sun. I was on a visit with no kit, unfortunately.

Good to see that AR developing.

Nice image Mark !
Just wondering at what time did you take it ? It seems the pores were more developed compared to my images taken on the same day. It is amazing how fast these small things evolve.
