AR2738 in Ca K with TOA 150 and nice details

Post by christian viladrich »

The seeing was quite variable this morning. Still, I was lucky enough to get some nice details on this beautiful sunspot.
Alight bright seems to be developing. Will see to-morrow what will be next. A very thin dark filament is splitting in two the light bridge. The width of this dark filament is about 0.5 arcsec.
Some penumbral filaments are seen plunging into the umbra.

Best regards

That's another really beautiful image. Do you operate at close to the calculated optimal focal ratio (f15ish) for CaK with the ASI290?

That's an outstanding image Christian! Remind what filter you are using for your sub aperture ERF? I've just tried the Astronomik L2 filter and was disappointed it gives about an ND2 cut in CaK, not what I needed.

Thanks to all :-)
John : my F/D is about 22, so the sampling is about x2.8 the resolving power. Experience shows the optimal sampling is about X3 the resolution power (and not x2 as usually reported).
Mark : I am using a blue Astronomik filter which has an excellent transmission in Ca K. The newest Astronomik blue filters cut Ca K (this is to reduce the chromatic aberration on LRGB images taken with refractors). I don't know when they made the change.

Thanks Christian. Shame about the Astronomik blue changing. The Baader Blue CCD filter has transmission in CaK but is not as high as I would like. I may try the Astronomik L3 as this seems to extend quite a bit further into the blue. It's a shame the 50.8mm filters from Andover / EO don't fit else there's a few options there that would work too.

Such a beauty to sit and stare at, I am always thrilled to see your images :bow :hamster: how do you get them so smooth and noise free?
