CaK Sun - Saturday 20th April

Post by marktownley »

Hi All,

Up nice and early this morning for some CaK views of our star. First off the full disk with the ED60 stopped down to 40mm with a 2x cemax barlow, homebrew CaK filter and the FLIR GH3 ICX814 camera:

Next same scope with a 2.5x barlow and the PGR Chameleon 3 camera to close in a bit on the departing active region:

May have a go in Ha for some proms later on, but at the moment just sat enjoying a beer in the sunshine...

Have a good weekend everyone.

Mark

Sounds like the the weekend I am having, sat in the Sun with wine though (not beer). Fabulous images Mark and I am glad you took that travel scope although I am thinking you should have taken the HaT :)

Thanks Alexandra! I'm glad I took some scopeage with me, at one point I wasn't going to. We're going to be away for 10 days, so we've both got a case each which left limited space. I wish I could have taken the HaT but that would have meant the EQ6 and all associated appendages coming with us and just not the space. The Skywatcher AZ GTi is a surprisingly good portable mount for the size - I feel an upgrade to the stock tripod, a new decent saddle plate and a counterweight and I should be able to get my 80mm and 100mm scopes on it.

Hi All,

Is it just me ? I am finding no urge to setup and image and process solar images !! The weather does not help (lots of wind, rain and cloud !!), and i suppose it is work intervenes and reduces my spare time. I think I am be getting depressed. Do you imagers need a long break from imaging sometimes to get your motivation and drive to image the sun ??

Thanks all.
Magnus

Yes, a break is good but the length depends of the imager ...

I know how you feel, I have also been a bit depressed recently with health issues, it really is distracting and difficult to get motivated when you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes a break does work wonders, only for a week or two though :) I still have 3 days worth of imaging to look through. I tend to come back to them in the winter as any spare moment in the summer usually goes into doing the gardening (a big distraction). I think it would be better if I had an observatory and it didn't take 30 minutes to set up and pack away ;)

Hi all...

Regarding the break from imaging...for me time at the scope is my break from work and home demands ;) Even if customers call while I'm at the scope it doesn't seem to bog me down. If I 'm at work there are too many phones, walk ins, staff needing direction and trying to cover multiple jobs all at the same time :o Getting out and scouting fields does provide a bit of a break too, but I far prefer to be at the scope

I hope everyone has a means to get some inner peace when needed!
