Prominences & Lift Off Animation, AR2739 | HA, CaK | April 20th 2019

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

Yesterday's weather was unreal it was so bad. Today, it's great. Seeing was ok, not superb though. Was able to image the large prominence grouping this morning and while watching the limb near AR2739 I noticed a prominence forming so rapidly that it would change within 30 seconds quite apparently just on the screen. I grabbed 16 videos to sequence an animation of this rapidly evolving prominence that lifted off, around 10:30am Eastern and then it was gone again. AR2739 is just a tiny spot at this point, some minor activity near it, but oh so small.

Nice!
Is that the famous 0,1nm Chroma filter Bob is experimenting with? And you were able to get your hands on a PST #1 filter?

A very nice set of images today Marty, and the animation looks good too :bow

Always nice to see changes in such a short time...most astro targets can hold their appearance for days (planetary) or centuries for deep sky...the sun can put on a show in real time.

Super proms Marty, and very crisp CaK :bow you are a pro!!

We are thinking of visiting Florida next spring, do you have any recommendations of good places to stay? it is always best to ask a local :) We aren't interested in cities only the wildlife areas. We are struggling to find anything other than in cities which I would hate :(

If you're into birding and wildlife, East coast down to the Space Coast (St Augustine south to Cape Canaveral) are excellent with lots of wetlands with birds of all kinds. Otherwise, the surrounding Tampa Bay area is also a big home to birding and wetlands. After that would be the Everglades area. Depends on what you're looking for.

Viera Wetlands
Cape Coral
Ft DeSoto
Merritt Island
