Animation: Cinco de Mayo Fireworks
Finished processing an animation from Sunday May 5th. I love doing these and it was so nice to have a confluence of time, weather and and interesting target (AR2740). This is 26 frames of 150/500 stacks captured between 13:36 and 14:57 EDT using a Lunt LS100THa/B1800, 5x PowerMate, and a PGR Grasshopper 3. I feel like my workflow is becoming more established and efficient as well. Used FireCapture with Paul's SSM plugin along with Autostakkert 2, IMPPG and Photoshop CS5. However the big add this time around was a Hinode autoguider purchased at NEAF. Nice piece of kit! I clipped hedges and knocked a few items off my honey-do list whilst capturing this data.

First class Christopher!!! what I do like most is seeing the faint wispy plasma floating about above the main active region. I bet you would never pay this any attention if you looked at a still photo or watched it live.

Re: Animation: Cinco de Mayo Fireworks
Thank you for the comments everybody. It is very encouraging
Alexandra, I agree and when I saw that phenomena early on in reviewing the frames I couldn't wait to see how it was revealed in the final sequence. I felt like I had found the sweet spot exposure wise to be able to bring out those subtle details without burning out the brighter surface regions. And you're right, without the element of motion this subtle detail is likely lost. To me, there's nothing like these animations to give you that sense of "being there" and reveal what is physically happening in the chromosphere.

Absolutely beautiful!
And I agree with Alexandra about that beautiful phenomenon.
But please: blow those tiny dust speckles away. (-;
One question. What did you use as the trigger and (I forgot the name of the other) value? Were you not afraid that there could be big gaps between the different avi's?

Re: Animation: Cinco de Mayo Fireworks
Yes, the neverending battle against dust motes...exacerbated by spring pollen and shedding trees. Perhaps they make an "autoblower" for such purposes
The Trigger Threshold was 1.6 and the Discard Threshold was 2.4. I try to strike a balance on these settings based on the prevailing conditions. In this particular sequence the majority of capture videos (500 frame limit) completed in less than 90 seconds using these thresholds. A couple ran closer to 2.5 minutes and one ran 6 minutes (I probably should have thrown that one away). If I had a lot more frames I probably would have been more selective but as it was I used everything I captured.

Very nicely done, Christopher.
It’s always fascinating to see solar plasma dynamics in action. Many of the motions appear counterintuitive and only appreciated in animations such as yours. Thanks for bringing this to us.

Well done Christophe !
It looks as if the large prominence on the limb has some connection with some of the filaments from the sunspot ?

Great animation, Christopher. I noticed a lot going on in the background as well. I hope to try one someday.
