Finally a good Quark | first light (20190511)

Post by pedro »

Finally a good Quark

I tried today (visually) for the first time a Daystar Quark Chromosphere that I received recently. I have to thank Simon Bennet (Widescreen centre) for sending my old Quark to Daystar. I received a brand new Quark and this one is a great performer.

With the Takahashi FS60 F/5.9 and a 32mm Plossl I can see the whole sun (FD)

Tomorrow I will try it with a CCD camera. Check out a few images below (FLICKR)

:D
My dealer (Astrograph) is about to send mine back. He is suggesting we say no to the replacement option as he said he checked mine originally as ok and that can't be guaranteed for a new one. Given mine is 4 years old, I'd be tempted to go new if possible as I assume their consistency/quality control is now better?
What do you think?

Hi Helen

Mine was still under warranty ( I bought it second hand though ). Simon sent it back to Daystar and I got a new one.

I love the design and the innovation of these quarks. I had one in magnesium, one in CaH, one in sodium and two in hydrogen alpha but I could never get any of them to really show a decent view. I still have a camera Quark that I really want to work hut it never shows much except a red solid ball.
I know that this is more than likely due to me and my lack of optical knowledge. Daystar has been really good about supporting these items and I wish them the best but I could just never get anything out of mine so I gave them all to my friend Umair Asim in Lahore Pakistan for outreach use.

My first quark was not great, it showed a red solid disk as well

With this one I could see lots of features on the disk and proms as well. I have to say that I observed visually and it looked great (uniform disk)

I had some low clouds at the end of the afternoon that show on the quick image I did (eyepiece projection)

Overall it seems a great quark
