May 26th

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

I finally had clear skies and a day away from work for the first time in over 3 weeks on Sunday and managed to play in the sun for a few hours before lunch. Seeing was poor and the disk was pretty much devoid of features, but it wasn't a complete loss.

The first image is the full disk composite of separate disk and limb exposures. There is a small set of filaments on the NW quadrant, a nice prom on the NW limb, and a small spot of activity on the NE quadrant:

Although the seeing was poor, I set up the iStar 150mm, f8 scope with a Daystar ERF and a 3x tele-extender and grabbed a few images with the Quark Combo Chromosphere filter. I used a 12nm Astronomic Ha filter in the Quark nosepiece as well. The images below show the NE and NW quadrants and another region which had a small bright spot...that as exciting as it got, LOL. I was also trying the prom, but the seeing didn't do it any favours!

The last images were taken with the iStar scope again, but with the Lunt Solar Wedge/B1800CaK filter for full disk CaK. There was also a Baader K-Line filter mounted in the camera nosepiece for the image. Pretty quiet, though the activity on the NE quadrant is visible as well as a few other small bright spots :

This covers most of the images that processed out reasonably well. Hoping for more time and clear skies in the weeks ahead ;)

You had a good run of images Brian! I'm hoping for some sun this weekend when i'm back home. Have been away with my parents on the boat all this week but didn't take the travelling kit with me.

How lovely to finally get a moments peace to enjoy the Sun, it doesn't matter if it is quiet or active it is just the pleasure of sitting there and enjoying the view. These are a great set Brian :hamster: :bow sounds like your weeks are as busy as mine.

Mark and Alexandra...

Thanks for your feedback on the images, it's always appreciated :bow

Mark, the boat sounds like a fine way to spend some time...I need a canoe to get over a lot of fields here ;)

Alexandra, I wouldn't mind being busy at work, but it been 2 months of constant revisions of seed and fertilizer plans as we close May out with an average of 50% of the crop planted (should be done) and trying to plan around 50%-75% winter kill in wheat and alfalfa. Livestock producers are trying to come up with alternate feed and straw options for get them through the winter. My brother and neighbour are included in this too...pretty tense around the countryside these days

Good images, Brian. Lovely Ha FDs in particular.

Sounds like tough times. Hope it all comes good.

All good images, Brian. The orange one is particularly striking to me. I see that you haven't lost your touch after three weeks. After I took some time away from imaging, it took me a while to get back in the groove.
Best of luck with the crops.

Phil
