Woke nice and early this saturday morning to clear blue skies, given the weather we have been having lately it was nice to get some scopes out and make the most of a quiet sun. Seeing wasn't too bad and I kicked off with a full disk at 100mm f10 with the Tal100R refractor with the FLIR ICX916M Grasshopper 3. I used unsharp masking in ImPPG compared to LR deconvolution as the latter seems to emphasise white noise in the image, viewed full size there are hints of inverse granulation cells being visible, as are polar faculae / bright points in both hemispheres. A bright patch of plage at low southern latitudes is likely associated with cycle 25 activity. Cycle 24 still isn't done as there are bright points at the equator.

Zooming in with the 3x barlow and same setup looking closer at the equatorial regions shows a closer look at some of the cycle 24 plage:

However the suns southern polar region was where it was all happening today, polar faculae can be seen as can larger area of plage that is likely associated with sub surface cycle 25 activity. Notice spicule ring too.

In Ha the sun was pretty blank with the SM90, all bar a small flame prom.

However double stacking with the Quark revealed polar filaments in both hemispheres, again, tell tale forerunners of cycle 25. But, as with CaK the southern pole was where it was all happening. I caught this little surge, however note where the polar faculae are, they can be seen is DS Ha and can be seen to be subtly streaming plasma. This animation covered just over 10 minutes.

Quite pleased with this lot, might be a few more. Today is cloud with thunder storms coming in so no sun today. Hope you like these and hope the sun is shining where you are.
Mark

Hi Mark...
This session turned up some excellent images in all bands and resolutions...excellent work
That chip performs nicely at the short-medium focal lengths!!!

Mark,
You packed in a ton of work in your available window! I love the images but I also appreciate the narratives as they are quite educational.
