A Trio of Disks - 25th August

Post by marktownley »

Busy day today, met up with the family for lunch, so only time for a quick session when we got back this evening. The sun was dropping low and I had my exposures quite a bit higher than normal to compensate. The seeing was quite nice considering the temperature was up at 30c.

Starting off in the blue end and CaK with the ED80 stepped down to 60mm, barlowing up to get full frame with the big chipped Grasshopper. The bright cluster of plage top right is cycle 25.

Then out came the sodium Quark for an expensive view of 589nm, the ED60 was used this time.

Notice in the two wavelengths above how the polar faculae can be seen - top left of the disk is a triangle of 3 faculae that are easy to see.

Finally in Ha, with the Lunt 50 etalon double stacked with the Daystar Quark. Lots of filaments note - that means an increase in the magnetic field strength, the big cluster right at the south pole is responsible for the lovely proms that we had for the last 2 days. The bright plage and small contorted filaments mid disk are the remnants of the active regions we had at Easter, this is what remains after 4 rotations

Fingers crossed for some sun tomorrow, but, i'm not as optimistic as the past couple of days - we will see!

Mark

"Lots of filaments note - that means an increase in the magnetic field strength"
Looks promising for more activity?

Beautiful FDs in both wavelengths, Mark!!

It has been sometime since I have done CAK imaging. Yours and Alexandra's CAK are urging me towards CAK for next round, but clouds have to go first.

Very nice, Mark. A good sweep across the spectrum and some good observations. Let’s hope cycle 25 starts to really kick in soon.

Wonderful!! I was going to comment that there is lovely polar faculae in the north pole of the CaK, had to search a little harder in the sodium shot. These look great when enlarged :hamster: :bow
