14 May 2019 Spectroheliograms

Post by p_zetner »

Greetings Everyone.

These spectroheliograms are a bit late in coming . They were taken in May when we had the rare pleasure of the large sunspot and active region AR2741. The disk orientation is wrong - probably inverted left to right.

In the intervening time, I had the opportunity to do some traveling and, in July, a rather sobering encounter with my own mortality (a "widow maker" heart attack). Life is normalizing for me once again and I thought I would post this first installment in a backlog of SHG data that I have yet to process from my May observing session. Consider this a bit of a teaser and more will follow once I've paid attention to some of my other pressing and neglected responsibilities.

All the best.
Peter

Excellent Peter! Lovely contrast! Always interesting to see the different elements.

Glad to hear you made it through that widow maker!

Very best,

Marty, Franco and Pedro; Thanks for the very kind wishes.
It’s good to be among the living, hopefully long enough to outlast solar minimum!

Absolutely! You will!

Your images with the SHG inspire me to make one eventually. You should post images of what your device looks like more often! If nothing else, I'm super interested in how the sun will look in CaK 393.4nm in ultranarrowband from a SHG when the maximum returns, seeing filaments, proms, etc. Gives me something to really think about that is just not possible with current commercial Cak stuff.

Very best,

Good to hear that you are back, Peter! I haven't had a comparable experience myself, but I can imagine that time probably feels more precious after that. If you want to dedicate some of it to sharing more of your solar work, this will certainly be very much appreciated!

Best wishes,

Frank

Peter, excellent high quality spectroheliograms. I do enjoy seeing a different face on the sun. More please, when you have time.

As for the MI, put it behind you. It happens to the best of us. No worries.

Phil

Hi Peter,

Glad to see you recovered and active.

All these images are nice. But I most impressed with HeD3 one.

And it will be interested to see the Ca II I at 8542.1A.

Good grief Peter. A bit of a shock to hear the news this morning. I’m just back from my hols in Crete and starting to catch up on things, but didn’t expect to hear you’d had a heart attack. I hope you continue to make a full recovery and that any lasting damage to the ticker is absolutely minimal.

Lovely images. It’s so fascinating to see the changes through the wavelengths.

Keep well and stick around for a few more solar cycles!

Stu.

Dear Frank, Phil, Valery, Mark, Stu, Eric and Maurits;

Thanks all for your kind thoughts and supportive words. Eric, you may be right about the healing power of solar astronomy! Stu, I'll do my best to stick around for a few more solar cycles. I have projects I have to finish!

Thanks again and all the best.
Peter

BTW Check the "Solar Radio, Magnetometry and Spectroscopy" forum for updates and additions to my May 14 spectroheliograms.

BTW Marty: I have a gallery of a few shots of the first incarnation of my spectroheliograph here:

It's changed a little and I'll post a more recent photo shortly.

Oh Peter!! I'm so glad to hear you are recovering, you definitely need to take it easy in the sunshine so we can all enjoy your wonderful images in all the solar bands. Terrific images above :bow
