Great prom today 9/22/19

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: while I am troubleshooting my high-res system that has been misbehaving during the last 4-5 sessions, today I took out the SM90 single stacked and found this great looking prom. The camera was a PG 3.2PM Flea 3.

Hope some in the group will get to animate this prom...

Clear skies to all

Franco

Lovely. I'll experiment with red 'h-alpha' coloring as well now.

Oh yea, nicely composed and processed with plenty of detail to keep it interesting. The colorized versions are subtle enough not to distract. Well done, Franco. Did you create a new color?

Thank you Jack, Phil and Maurits, greatly appreciated. This other fainter but long prom was on the other side of the disk. It was a bit more challenging to pull out. It is difficult to say if the prom on the left is the end part of the arch prom on the right, falling back into the sun or its own, detached and flying out... comments ?

Absolutely delightful!! it takes a lot of skill to capture such faint proms as this :bow :hamster: the first looks like a bird ready to take off. I suspect that the second is not detached but has a very thin and even fainter thread holding it down, the only way to know if it is detached or not is to watch over the next hour and see if it floats away or snaps back down to the solar surface.

Thank you, Mark and Alexandra, for your kind words. Here is another image I processed: it was shot about 13 minutes earlier and it shows, as Alexandra suspected, that the long prominence was all one and attached !

Great pictures Franco, what focal length are you imaging at? . That detail is amazing.

Thank you Mark and Martin: I was imaging at the SM90's native 800mm focal length. The first two images were taken with a PG Flea 3 3.2 MP at around 60FPS, the last one was taken with a ZWO 120MM-S 1.2PM camera at about 30FPS. I chose to go single stack with the SM90 as I thought it would give a brighter image of the proms. The seeing was 3+.

I don't see many people image in the natural color of red h-alpha light. It might give a visual observer as myself possibly a little clearer idea of what a feature would look like visually.

Imaging proms in the beautiful pink-magenta of their natural appearance as seen during a total solar eclipse would be awesome too!
