Some Images in Ha with Quark Chrosphere Oct. 12, 2019

I had a chance to do some imaging from my balcony, between the clouds on Saturday. Equipment used ES 102 ED with Quark chromosphere and ASI 174MM. Seeing was not great around 3 arcseconds. Thanks for looking! My processing skills are very rough. Any suggestions, comments, tutorials welcomed!

Your images turned out quite well, showing some nice detail in the brighter proms...well done

I like them all. What is your processing workflow? Do you use IMPPG? That is key for me to really adjust some curves, contrast and LR Deconvolution.

I start by stacking in AS3! The above were 50 frames out of 500. Then start processing in ImPPG. I try not to go to hard on the sigma for LR and the unsharp mask. If I capture the surface and prom area, I invert the surface and bring out the proms. Then I finish it off in Gimp with a slight unsharp mask and some curves adjustment. I'll invert the surface/prom image. I think the Gimp part is where I could improve. I just don't know how to manipulate the image and what each function does or how to process one area without overdoing another area. I've tried to search for tutorials but they don't apply to solar images.

What is your Quark dial set at? Idike to s3e more contrast on the surface portions and that is where my questions are driving.

Also, which capture software are you using and are you using any kind of secondary filter like a polarizer or a UVIR Cut?

I have my Quark set to a far counterclockwise as it can go. This seems to bring out the most contrast. I seem to loose the contrast when I try to bring out the proms in ImPPG. If you notice it's not such a problem when I just focus on the surface at least to me. I'm using firecapture and try to fill the histogram to about 70%. I use an UVIR cut and a Ha CCD filter before the Quark. I don't have a polarizer. Will that make a big difference? Thanks for the comments!

This is a super set well done

There are lots of tutorials in the Solar reference library, my particular favourites are from Mark T's website links in the ref library. However I think most are using Photoshop but when I have used GIMP I have found most methods can usually be found in there when you look hard enough. The principles seem to be similar across both programs.

Nice shots! My advice to improve - just use LR not USM, certainly not both together. The 'dotty' noise in the images says to me you are using too many iterations. Using a flat will help things too.
