2020-03-27 - Full disk HA

Post by JochenM »

After not having seen the sun for over a month here, I woke up to a nice and sunny day. Time to put the telescope out!

Unfortunately, there was a lot of wind; making imaging fairly difficult. But since there wasn't too much to see on the sun anyway (did a bit of visual first), no big deal. Still happy enough to have finally gotten another session in.

The only semi decent image I managed to get (Lunt LS50 + ZWO ASI 178):

A very good looking full disk, Jochen. How do you like your 178 camera ?

Thanks Franco.

Overall, I'm happy with the 178. I had an issue a while back with some grid-like artifact showing up in my images (which is a known issue apparently). But that seems to completely vanish if I tilt the camera just the right way. So no complaints.

Jochen nice clean image. I also have a 178 and did have the same grid issue. What is the correct tilt? Trial and error?

Thanks.

I can only speak for my own setup of course. I use the Daystar Interference Eliminator (what a name) as my tilting adapter. For me, just a very minor tilt away from the center is the ideal spot (to get rid of the grid and also newton rings when using a powermate).

Jochen,

That's a very nicely imaged disc. There may not be a lot going on there but you imaged the Chromosphere very well.
