Hi,

and here are the March 20 images. In White light there is a hint of that activity in the Northeastern hemisphere at about 8°. A cycle 24 disturbance as it is positive / negative ... according to SDO magnetogramm image

Great Ha and WL images Rainer :bow

What scope do you use for the WL images? The Ha images are mosaics, but wasn't sure if your WL were as well.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Thanks. For White light I am using a Takahashi FS-78 630 mm focal length with a ZWO ASI 290MM Cool camera and yes White light is also a Mosaic of 4 images.

H-alpha is a 9 image mosaic using a Takahashi FS 85ED " Baby Q" at 900 mm focal length.

Rainer

Rainer,
Very nice scopes you are using. A close friend of mine has a Takahashi FS 102 F8 fluorite refractor and aspires to get a Baby Q in the near future. I have played with the idea of getting an FS 60 as a super portable grab and go travel scope.

Can I ask how you get your grid overlay so neat?

For Reglesolaire the grid is a smart object so it transfers directly in Photoshop. I have followed the help directly from Tilting Sun and the first problem is scale. I measured my disc and it is 1850 pixels wide. If I use this scale in tilting Sun the copied picture from in the clipboard is only as big as my screen shows and so only 1/4 of the disc can be seen. The second problem is that if you use magic wand and select the gridlines and copy into the new image the grid is pixellated and to be honest absolute rubbish. I can't find any other tutorials. I need to somehow get the layer into a format similar to the RegleSolaire solar ruler. Any help would be a appreciated. Even better a mini tutorial which we could put in the reference library. I'll keep tinkering.
Many thanks
Alexandra

Hi Alexandra,

It is quite simple.

Choose the biggest graphic window of Tilting sun which fits completely into your Monitor. Choose a size of the graphic which gives you a full disc inside the white Tilting Sun graphic window.

My monitor is a 2560 x 1440 pixel monitor and so I can select a full Sun with a diameter of 1300 pixels.

Sun_Grid_01.JPG
Sun_Grid_01.JPG (279.76 KiB) Viewed 4952 times

With Alt + PrintScreen I copy the graphics window and in Photoshop with Ctrl + N I make a new windows in Photoshop and copy the window into it.

Now crop the Titling Sun window so you only have the white background and the grid of the Sun.

As I see that you have Photoshop for selecting the grid use the Select > Color Range tool and set it to Fuzziness 20. This will select the Grid. Copy the grid with Ctrl + C and paste it onto your 1850 sized sun.

Sun_Grid_02.JPG
Sun_Grid_02.JPG (323.45 KiB) Viewed 4947 times

In my case as my grid is 1300 pixels I divide my Sun diameter 1930 by 1300 = 1.48 or 148 %

After you have the grid over the Sun disk use the Edit > Free Transform tool or Ctrl +T and in the resize field enter your percentage e.g which maybe could be 1850 / 1150 = 1.6 or 160 %

The with the mouse inside the grid layer move the grid so it covers exactly the border of the Sun and click the Checkmark when it is OK.

As you see it was quite simple ... I like simple steps as I am lazy and all those fancy automatic processes give more trouble then solutions ...

If you have AnyDesk I could show you how to do it in a remote session ... OK, this depends on what bandwidth you have for internet. I have a symmetric bandwidth of 100 mbps

Any questions ?

Rainer

AnyDesk = same as TeamViewer, which I deleted as the guys from TeamViewer where bugging me saying I was using it commercially, I explained them what I do with TeamViewer but they never accepted it and kept bugging me and so I send them to Hell. I was just transferring my files from the Observatory to my house office ...

Ah much easier and nicer than the tutorial on tilting Sun! I can only fit a Sun 900 pixels wide before it drops off and 700 pixels if I wish to use the labels.

Hi Alexandra,

Good ¿ any questions ? and I also started with the labels but then dropped them in order to get a bigger RAW grid which behaves better for upsizing.

I guess you have a 1920 x 1080 pixel monitor ¿?

Hi Phil,

Thanks and well I guess I have an exceptional good double stack 60 mm and I am using a BF 30 even having a tiny chip. My thinking was to let go thropugh as much light as possbile in straight way. Perhaps it helps ¿ I do not know ?

BTW I took out the ERF of the rear Etalon as I said one is enough and after that I got a shorter exposure time.

Also I tinkered for about 4 to 6 months to find the best orientation for my 60 mm double stack which are Original Coronado etalons and NOT Meade ...

Rainer,
I can't seem to get the following to work for me:
"" use the Select > Color Range tool and set it to Fuzziness 20. This will select the Grid. Copy the grid with Ctrl + C and paste it onto your 1850 sized sun.""
When using the Color Range I get the "crawling ants" outlining the grid pattern....but when I try to copy paste to the solar image it comes overs with the white background, not transparent.
What am I missing?? I can use CS5 or PaintShopPro.
