Inspired by Alexandra's fantastic work, I also imaged a few Ca-K polar faculae this morning with the TEC140 (Good seeing)

The polar faculae seem difficult to see visually.

Pedro,
Thanks for that mate, greatly appreciated.
You've brightened up my otherwise drab and drismal ( from my daughter- Dismal + drizzle) day.
Deepsolar64,
Any CaK detail is extremely difficult to see (some say impossible - if you're over 14 years of age...)

The faculae recorded in CaK wavelengths is similar but not identical to that seen in the white light Photosphere.

Well done Pedro!! plenty of time for some in depth studies I think :) these are super shots, I took some yesterday but I expect it will take me all day to process them :)

:bow :hamster:

Deepsolar, yes of course you will be able to see them in White light, this is where they were discovered and named. However you will need very good seeing for contrast and a scope above 100mm aperture. A continuum filter will also help, or even better a blue filter (Wratten 47). See here a link where you can download a guide to what you could see when you set up (choose flattened intensity and pick closest image to your time now) http://jsoc.stanford.edu/HMI/hmiimage.html

Fine images, Pedro, very crisp.

Visually polar faculae are better seen through a Herschel wedge and deep yellow or green filter.

Excellent images Pedro :bow

i am impressed by the lack of cable around your mount...I only see the USB cable to the camera.

My mounts/piers are a maze of wires and cables no matter how I try to de-clutter  I spent the weekend moving computers and re-wiring everything after installing the EM400 and moving the solar equipment to the big roll-off and installing the MI-250 in the dome. I think everything is working now, save the SSM which isn't powering up when its plugged into the USB...need to play around with it some more.

Brian: Some mounts have a large conduit to run additional cables through (e.g. Paramount). This is not the case with Takahashi mounts. I tend to use only the control box to image the sun (EM400). It's simple and efficient. Sometimes I also plug the SSM as well

I do have a Celestron 102mm refractor I just need to outfit it for solar use, either with solar film or better yet, a wedge. My usual white light instrument is smaller, a 70mm Orion refractor with a glass filter. I do have a Baader continuum filter.

P.S. And Pedro, that is an awesome YouTube movie. I love Cak but probably could not see it visually. I hear CaH is a bit easier to see.

I have seen them a small number of times now using my C102 with the wedge but today I actually picked them up in my 70mm refractor which uses an almost white ( tinge of green ) glass filter. Seeing was excellent. I was really surprised at doing this. I picked up several faculae in the north and while they weren't exactly obvious they were certainly more than hinted at. My old eyes must still work pretty well.
