2020-04-11 - First try at a prominence animation

Post by JochenM »

Today's Sun was fairly calm, but did have a couple of nice proms. I've never tried making a prom animation and since I had nothing better to do; why not!

I noticed a bunch of mistakes I made once I started processing (messed up the tracking/guiding a bit, forgot to take flats etc). But all in all, happy enough for a first attempt.

Thanks for looking.

That works really well! You on an alt/az mount? Too much (variable) haze here for animations at the moment.

Thanks.

Mark, this was done using my AZ-EQ6 in AZ mode (using two scopes). Next time I'll probablty just put in EQ mode and align it properly etc (which should hopefully take care of it).

Nicely done, Jochen. It’s always great to see solar dynamics in action. Definitely worth setting up in EQ mode to eliminate the rotation, but now you’ve cracked the process, that’s just a minor detail. :)

very nice work Jochen , I am not bothered by the rotation because the animation is very fluid and the gaze is focused on the limbus.

Cheers Stu/Paul

Considering how much work it is to process; it's not something I'll be doing every day. But fun to toy with every now and then :)
