Indent on limb

Post by dhkaiser »

Anyone see the indentation on the SE limb where the new AR will be in a couple days? There is a curved prom there as well.

There is quite a bit of activity going on there. Over the last 1 1/2 hour it has been brightening and dimming and changing structure and shape. One prom with a few others very close by. At one time that small prom was really bright, it makes me wonder if there are any flare activity associated with it?

Hi Jochen,

Yes I agree. I just imaged the Sun and there is something going on already. The limb is more disturbed then anywhere else.

It was crackling with B class flares earlier this morning, but nothing really recently.

These dynamic fast surging jets are normally typical of an 'active' active region coming around the limb. Could be good for the days ahead. Sun is getting closer to the horizon here so it's over to you guys on the other side of the pond to enjoy the show.

Just took a look into SDO and the Magnetogram image and it looks like it is going to be big ...

Also well visible in the AIA 1600Å image at around -25°

Hi Dan,

I can see the "dent" clearly. Tried to look up the web for possible explanation but didn't find a simple explanation.

SDO's HMI Intensitygram - colored image shows a nice sunspot emerging from the SE limb.
