June 7th full discs. Testing new ASI178 camera

Post by _Zakalwe »

Testing a new ASI 178 camera on the Lunt L60. Seems to be a decent camera.....it'd be nicer to have a faster framerate than 30FPS, though at this image scale it seems OK.

Image details:
Full disc fits nicely on the chip.
Double-stacked Lunt L60 pressure tuned (stacked with 50mm Etalon)
ASI178 camera.
Mesu 200 mount.
Captured in Firecapture, stacked in AS!3. Sharpened in ImPPG.
Final processing in Photoshop.

Nice and crisp. Love the filament over the sunspot area.

On full discs I just use the ruler in Photoshop to measure the diameter in pixels. I divide that by 109 to get an equivalent Earth diameter. I then have an Earth image that I scale to get it the correct size.
On partial discs I use some simple maths (it has to be simple for me to use it!) to measure the chord length and height and calculate the relative Earth diameter.

I'm pretty sure that it's far from an exact science, but as long as it's somewhere near then I'm happy. I'm more into the pretty picture business than the formal science of it all

Hi Stephen,

You have picked the right camera for your setup. The full disks and details are well presented.
