Half disc and sunspot, June 8th

Post by AJamesB »

Less than average seeing at around noon, bordering on poor, but good enough for a sharper half disc shot. Tried to bring out some detail from the sun spot shot using the 2.5x, but couldn't get much. Always fun to try though.

Lunt 100 singlestacked + 178mm for half disc shot (slightly cropped), then 178+2.5x for the sunspot closeup

Excellent images. As there is now only the one original Sun-spot at 23:59z Monday 8-6-2020, the others are now so faint or unidentifiable that your image shows just that...

Ya, the others are definitely fading. They were visible, but they were on the upper half of the disc that wasn't in the frame. Much less active and interesting than they were a few days ago though for sure.

It does look as if you have captured (in both half-disk images) the very long prom beginning to take shape at around midnight/GMT which SDO has also shown, so well done on that capture which was presumably sometime after 2200hrs/GMT-UTC ??

I'm horrible with time conversions, but these were taken at about 1330 mountain standard time+daylight savings time in the US. I think I'm -7 or -8 hours from UTC, in which case that would be about 2200 or 2300.

And thanks!

Nice! That spicule layer on the limb came out well too.

An LS 100. I seriously considered buying one of those but purchased a Coronado SMII90 at a much lower price.
