Morningsun from Sweden

Post by Taipan »

Todays sun with my little Lunt50 and ASI178mm. Where playing around with the DS filter and tried my new focuser(moonlite mini). Not an even illuminated disc but i think it's ok :)
500frames taken with sharpcap. Stacked and auto-sharpen in ASS3 and color anda little bit of stretching to get the proms out in PS.
Any tips what i can do better would be great. How can i get the sunspot down to the right to stand out more?
How do i know whats up and down? Orientation?

It's a nice image, but in answer to your question, a little more tuning with the two Etelons might achieve trying to get all three items of interest,
as I have just tried to increase the contrast of your image which resulted in uneven brightness across the whole disk. Also the partial loss of the proms resulted from contrast adjustment.
With SharpCap (which I also use) you may require to reduce the imaging time slightly for the spots in Ha.

Practice and experiment is one answer...
(I have the 60mm Lunt Ha and DS)

Best Wishes
Terry

What a super image Taipan :bow :hamster:

Lots of questions! I have a few tips, there is a great thread in the Solar Reference library about how to orientate your camera and learn which way is what viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28249 it also helps to to check GONG http://halpha.nso.edu/index.html#top and SolarMonitor https://www.solarmonitor.org/ to help orientate too. Generally a wedge will make everything a vertical flip in your image; a straight through will be natural viewing but you might be upside down.

For sharpening I would avoid the presharpening in Autostakkert, use only the plain stack version. Add this to ImPPG and use this tool to sharpen. I have a few tips in my guide here https://solarnutcase.livejournal.com/?skip=10 but there are plenty more guides in the solar reference library from Mark Townley, Marty Wise etc so there is lots of material to practice and hone your skills if you have a spare 100 hours :)

Hi Taipan,

Good image and I am sure it will only get better. Like what Derek said, keep experimenting to understand how each variable/setting in the various software works.

Hi Taipan,

Looking at your image for me it looks correct.

Now when the Sun Starts to have more details it will be easier to orient the Sun. Keep in mind that it looks like all Soalr pages do orient the Sun's axis vertical.

If you look on my images I have the Celestial AXIS vertical and the Sun moves day by day back and forward.

A good little software is Tilting Sun which you can find here https://www.atoptics.co.uk/tiltsun.htm Be sure to set everything right especially the type of mount you are using.
