June 20 2020. Summer Solstice!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

On this day of the highest sun and longest day I observed from my dad’s place near Lowndesville SC from 9:30am to 10:30am EDT local time ( US ). Temp started at 74F. Skies are clear.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x. ( Ha )
I see two prominences on the limb of the Sun. A double-arched one is seen on the SW limb. The center of the arch and where the lower arch touches the limb is a little brighter than the rest. The second prom in the NE is easy and has a thin extension pointing northward. I also see 4 filaments. One soft but sizable one in the northwest and three smaller ones in a line in the northeast. I see one AR plage lower in the NE that looks like a thin white line pointing roughly northward with another one attached to it’s southern end pointing NW. Spicule mottling covers disc.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair solar wedge. 21.5x and 43x. ( WL )
I can faintly see the facula corresponding to the plage seen in the Coronado 60. I see no other detail except for fine granulation.
