Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
Today is glorious sunshine and so is tomorrow so I have taken two half days off work to do solar in the morning. I started imaging with the C11 / Aries ERF and the PST mod and ASI174 by 8am. I think it was all over at 8.30am. Seeing was beautifully calm and steady today although I think my images were better last time, I think I have over processed these. Still not happy about how off band they are but there is nothing I can do, only the very bottom left hand corner out of the whole ASI chip is on band, it makes my Quark seem like a diamond gem and I got rid of that!

Re: Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
Alexandra, a very nice and waited session on a blank Sun.
Trying even without the results one expects, gives you more experience in your setups and workflows.
Best regards and keep safe, BTW, yesterday we had a good earthquake, imagen with the Pandemia and taking out of hospitals all the sick people. It was 7.7 at the epicenter 500 Km away, but it felt strong at the city.
I was at the home observatory waiting for the Sun to show behind clouds, when the sirens and alarms started announcing the quake, so I went down to our reunion place for these occasions and waited for a minute or so to start oscillating,(the lamps at my home started swinging around up to 30°to each side).
Later when finished had to go up to the observatory to close down, it started raining, so no Sun.
Eric.

Nice work with the C11, Alexandra. The close ups are nice and fluffy, but with good resolution. The disks are pretty.
Glad you had some time with the sun.

Very nice work Alexandra. I often see shapes in the spicule mottling too. They certainly are not always even. But I guess if they were they would be no mottling at all. Just an even fuzzy coat of spicules. And they show up in all of their furriness in your close-ups!

Re: Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
Interesting images.
These linear features seem to be a more common feature of large image scale and resolution. Seeing permitting!
Using the 2.6x GPC on my 150/10 & '174 I have recently noted paler, raised "ridges" stretching up to 1/8 of the diameter of the sun.
More commonly seen near the limb. As if their height was exaggerated by the perspective of curvature.
Nested triangles were visible in the SE quadrant in late improved seeing a couple of days ago. It was eerily artificial.
Unfortunately I lose the sun by 7pm to the local trees so must miss a couple of hours of evening seeing.
Valery's suggestion for observing and imaging early and late is sound advice. Though local seeing can vary wildly.

Re: Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
It's amazing to see such large scale features, Alexandra. I always wonder if these are just a consequence of random processes (they just happen to look aligned/structured), or if there's something more to it.
Your Ha FDs always look amazing with the Solarscope. Beautiful.
Your C11 images are showing lots of lovely texture.

Super images Alexandra! Give that other PST etalon a twist, warm weather like this it will unscrew easier than you think Sounds like your good seeing window is about the same as mine.

Hi Alexandra,
Did you try this etalon back on the PST body to check that it wasn’t damaged during deconstruction?

Re: Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
I think it will be a usual case of variability of quality of etalons. Some are excellent, some are good, some are not. The original one is excellent, this more leans more to good. Unfortunately we're experienced in the world of solar and the foibles and idiosyncrasies of individual etalons are more apparent and our demands are higher

Re: Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
Thanks guys
No I haven't checked the PST yet Stuart, it would involve going in the loft to find the body and at the moment our house seems to be infested with terrible spiders with very long legs, I am in a state of fear and frayed nerves and the thought of going up there really puts me off. I need to be brave!
I am more in the thought that the Solarscope blocking filter isn't really suited to it, I thought the PST looked quite good in testing over Christmas.

Re: Sunshine! tinkering with the C11 24/06/2020
Hi Alexandra,
I can see many good details in your images. Are you using the same PST etalon for this session as the one you used on 25June (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28632)? What BF are you using? So far I have good success with the Coronado BF 5. I have not used Solarscope BF. I will be trying out a new BF that Apollo has developed recently.

Hello Alfred, yes the same PST etalon for all the PST mod images + a Solarscope blocking filter.
