Full disks in Ha and CaK 25th June '20

Post by Carbon60 »

Just a couple of FDs in Ha and CaK today.

6 pane mosaics.

Ha on a Lunt 60/Basler acA1920-155um/2.5x PowerMate:

It might be cloudy/raining tomorrow and over the next few days, so that could be it for a while. :(

Thanks for looking.

At least the little new AR was of interest today, these full discs are lovely :bow :hamster:

Why are you selling your Lunt 60, it is a good little doer?

Hi Alexandra,

It does work really well. My plan was to use the proceeds of the sale towards a high grade Solar Spectrum, but now I’m not so sure, especially given the apparent lack of interest in the scope. Still thinking on that one.

Here's the little AR in close up (150mm/DS Lunt 35/2.5x PowerMate).

The seeing was highly variable and not ideal at this scale, but I think the image came out okay with AS!3 doing its magic.

 my dream is for a Solar Spectrum too, I wish for a lottery win every night :) I am surprised nobody wants your Lunt 60 as it is tried and tested by an expert, what more could a second hand purchaser want!

Nice addition Stu! Your 60 is a nice one, and tempted by the double stack etalon, but my money lately has been spent on hifi tweaking - today I take delivery of a upgrade platter for my turntable so I suspect I will be annoying Fiona with a weekend of listening to records :D

Beautiful FD, Stu.
I was wondering whether you could include an animation in order to compare easily the Ha and Ca K FD images ?

Really nice full disks, Stu.
You do a great job of getting uniform illumination across your mosaics. Do you flat field the individual frames?
Cheers.

Hi Christian,

I’ll give it a go. :) I’m not sure how well they’ll align (rotationally), so there might be some tweaking involved to get it right.

Thanks, Peter.

My mosaics can be a bit hit and miss. No flats, just strong overlaps (why do four panes when six will do)? Sometimes I do get patches showing up if my Ha tuning is a bit off and the individual panes are not as even as they should be. I really persevered with this one ;)

Thanks Stu,
Some of the bright areas visible in Ca K are visible in Ha, other ... not.
