June 25 2020. Sleeping Sun!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

From my home in Edneyville this morning around 10am local time.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x. ( Ha )
Very calm sun. I see no prominences, filaments, plages or any other detail except the ever-present mottling of the chromosphere.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x. ( WL )
Cue ball blank disc. No spots or faculae seen.

James

It shows up faintly on the GONG image but I could not see it. If I would have removed the stacking etalon I might have been able to see it.

It certainly is sleepy at the moment, I wish it would wake up a bit!

" Sleeping Sun " reminds me of the song of the same name by the Gothic symphonic metal band Nightwish with their original, and in my opinion, best lead singer Tarja Turunen.

Thanks for the report, James, and the link. Tarja has a remarkable singing voice.

With respect, there are plenty of disturbed areas on the sun in H-a.

Several "white" spots on the NW quadrant more or less surrounded in highly disturbed areas.
SE quadrant has a busy "ridge" and long, hyphenated filament going NE towards the limb.
Rather "wobbly" seeing is not producing quality results.

I didn't see them yesterday but I got two today. One with an embedded pore! Bad seeing yesterday? Maybe but not wine. I was drinking coffee!

Rusted,
Maybe I should have used the SMII90. I do plan to set it up tomorrow when I have more time. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
