July 1 2020

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Around noon I took the scopes out under mostly cloudy skies to try to catch some rays. I did far more sitting and waiting than I did looking and also ended up helping my wife do housework in between. However I did catch a few short gaps in the clouds for a meager report. Nothing seen today was actually easy. I had to work at it. I was a tuner-twiddler. Temperature was in the upper 70s. I took notes and lacking time to post before work I had to post this report after coming home. Anyway...

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x ( Ha )
I see three filaments on the sun. Two tiny ones in the NE and a larger more diffuse one in the SE below a small plage. I see no prominences at all in double-stack. If I would have took the time to remove the stacking etalon I might have been able to pick up a fainter one or two. But it being so cloudy and also multitasking on other activities I didn't bother. The usual mottling visible across disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I see no detail at all outside of fine granulation.

James

P.S. Views were quick. If I would have had more time and clear spaces I probably would have seen more. The sun overall seems really inactive though. I see no sign of the larger proms seen over the last couple of days.

Solar observing/imaging can be such a frustrating ‘sport’, James.

Thanks for your report.

Well done James, your persistence paid off to a get a little view of the Sun :hamster: no chance here, just endless drizzle.

Good that you managed to get a quick view in. Still better than nothing.

We're also having a pretty disappointing summer here so far this year. Lets hope it turns around at some point.
