July 3 2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

All,
This morning I observed from 10:12am to 10:45am EDT local time ( US ) . Skies are clear and temp is 81F. Seeing is not so good. My SMII90 and AT72EDII are packed up for a three day trip down to Rock Hill SC where I will be visiting a friend.

Coronado SMII60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see 4 soft filaments on the NE disc. A tiny prom lies on the limb to their east. The SE quadrant shows a large hedgerow prom that shows a lot of detail. A small bright plage is seen well to the NW. The northwest limb shows two prominences. One is fairly tall and curves southward. The northernmost of the two is small and barely noticeable. The mottling is visible across the disc but seems soft. Seeing I guess.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
A large but faint disturbance is seen inward of the limb on the SE disc. I see no sign of a faculae corresponding to the plage seen in the SMII60. Even though it can be seen on the SDO continuum image I cannot see the tiny pore within the small SE plage. Granulation can only be glimpsed with difficulty today.

In the SDO AIA304 image notice the long curved filament in the NE. This corresponds to the 4 soft filaments I can see in the scope. This is also seen in yesterday's images. Undoubtedly Ha cannot see all of it.

James

Nice report James. I see pretty much the same in my 60 mm DS.
