Temp 80 degrees, partly cloudy skies and average to below average seeing. Session lasted between 11:30am to 2:00pm EDT local time ( US ). I am back home in Edneyville NC.

All three active regions can be seen chaining across the northern hemisphere of the Sun. AR12768 nearest the western limb is the largest but also a bit harder to see than the others. I can however see a couple of filaments within it's disturbed plage area. I can see no spots. AR12769 is easier to see and also has a thin filament within. I see no spots within it's plage area. AR12770 is the most active and brightest region. It's bright plage contains an obvious dark sunspot. The plage is blotchy running diagnally NE to SW. I can see four filaments running in a curved arc on the NW limb above the active regions. I also can see a small unnamed plage/AR to the south of AR12270. Single stack can see several tiny dim prominences around the limb but one larger bright prom on the SW limb steals the show. It looks like a flame with an inner dark void. Changes in minute detail can be seen within it in a short time. Both in size, shape and projections. This one would be seen well in an animation-time-lapse image. Seeing however limits me to less than 100x limiting me from seeing the finest detail in the prom. The spicule layer is easily seen but again seeing prevents high power examination of it. Spicule mottling covers disc.

I concentrated mostly on examining the sunspot of AR12770 today. The spot has a double umbra which appears quite ragged. The bottom part is tooth shaped and the top it a fat tapered semi-teardrop. Both umbrae are surrounded by a common penumbra. My visual view despite less than perfect seeing is still a bit sharper than the SDO image shows it.
I tried the Orion binoviewer today. I cannot get the interocular distance close enough to merge the image. It looks like I will be sending this one back and will save for a better more pricey model. Maybe a Baader or Denkmeier model. Orion also has a better linear binoviewer with dielectric mirrors instead of prisms. Zeiss can be picked up used. Suggestions are welcomed.
James

Nice report James. I'll follow your experiences with a binoviewer with interest, I bought a 'cheap' one years ago and never got on with it.

It sounds like the disc is very beautiful to look at I am plagued by clouds this weekend, it is most frustrating.

Re: August 8 2020 Observations
I hope your skies clear soon so you can do some Ellerman bomb imaging.
