Full disc, sunspot, and light activity, 08-10-20

Post by AJamesB »

Poor to average seeing, but still fun to see what can be had. Best seeing was on the closeup of the sunspot at the end of the session.

Lunt 100 and asi178mm, then: 0.5x reducer for full disc image, camera only+ROI for partial disc and flare, then 2.5x for the sunspot. I tried doing a closeup of the flair without the 2.5x to see how it would turn out compared to using the 2.5x, and it wasn't nearly as good. Pixelation and and sensor pattern noise really do their damage, looking forward at some point to jumpt to a camera that doesn't use the sony exmor sensors, since they all seem to struggle with that sensor pattern issue, limiting how much of the very fine detail you can extract with them. Its most noticeable on the full size flare image, especially on the flare iteslf.
