August 10, 2020: AR12770 in H-alpha

Post by p_zetner »

Hello Everyone.

Seeing was pretty bad on the 10th so these images suffer a bit of blurriness but at least it wasn't a total wash like my August 8th session.
Equipment: Aries ERF, Celestron C8 Edge, Moonlite CHL focuser, f/46 Telecentric, Daystar QPE 0.6A, (f/30 FR) Point Grey USB3 Grasshopper IMX174
There's a lot of interesting structure visible in the double spot which has evolved from the single.
Hope we all get to experience some better seeing!

Hi Peter,
Yes I can see the seeing-difficulty you experienced, but you've captured the action of 2770 - thanks vm

These are very good for the bad seeing conditions you had, Peter. The wider field is my favorite, showing AR2770 very well.

Hi Peter,

Amazing and if my calculation is correct that is at 6096 mm focal length ?

Thank you all for your comments.

Terry: I was lucky enough to salvage some details in the spot umbra at f/46 even though the surrounding plage regions are not too sharp. You're right, there is a lot of action there!

Franco: I prefer the wider field version as well. The seeing didn't quite support the higher magnification.

Rainer: Yes. At f/30 the focal length is about 6 metres while at f/46 it is 9.3 metres ! Mind you, I've never actually measured it and am quoting the numbers I get from my design software (WinLens3D) with the design lens spacings. I should really try an actual measurement of the focal length!

Cheers.
Peter

Hi Peter,

By pure curiosity it would be interesting to know how many km you resolve in one pixel

Good images, Peter. It’s always so frustrating when the conditions don’t cooperate.

Wow!! image number 2 is very spectacular, it is very interesting to see what looks like arch filaments entering the spot rather than penumbra

Peter:
Bad seeing but you got some good results with the 8" scope.
Best wishes,
Eric.
