16.08.20 Still slogging away!

Post by Rusted »

We are enjoying a heatwave with lots of sunshine. Seeing generally poor.
A few from this morning's efforts: Tantalizing, occasional clarity but too "wobbly."

I have an hour's worth of videos bulk processed and aligned of this prom but am struggling to make a video out of them in GIMP.
I seem to have two complete sets of images. Before and after alignment. :?

Chris, you've certainly captured brilliantly and the colour-processing is beautiful - thanks vm

Thank you all for your kind words. :bow

It makes sweating for hours in a 90F observatory so worthwhile. :D

Isn't it wonderful to have so much of interesting to try and capture?

I am continuing to experiment with processing.
No rude words yet so I must be making some progress. ;)

These are today's late afternoon efforts:
The changes in little more than half an hour are remarkable!

I suspect Chris, that you are actually enjoying the sweating-out in 90F, by the looks of your very successful results.

I'm still not quite ready to re-start Solar-imaging as yet, but having experienced such high temperatures and above that you have been through - whilst doing the various modifications to the gear here, I would not need to spend so much of that sweaty-time in the observatory for the processing-phase, as I would simply transfer the downloads in-doors to work on a different computer in cool-comfort.

Like you though, I've also to go through processing-improvements and nearly completed installing all the necessary processing programs etc., so I also will need to do some learning and practicing too...

So well done and thanks for your efforts.

Regards
Terry

Thank you Terry, :bow

I process continuously as I capture at the telescope. Rarely taking more than a few short minutes from video capture to posting a final image on my blog. Better images may find their way onto the solar forums if I think they are acceptable. Like all imagers I am a martyr to seeing conditions. So I must develop a system and routine which allows me the maximum chance of success within my own limitations.

I know I shall never master the clever, image handling software favoured by the skilled imagers. Nor do I have ten years of constant practice to fall back on. So I just use SharpCap, AS!3 and ImPPG followed by PhotoFiltre7 to crop, colour and finish. Constantly and repeatedly. Day after day. Month after month. Whenever the sun is visible and the seeing cooperative I am in the dome practising my imaging. Large image scale using long focal lengths and GPCs is my chosen game.

A 27" quality monitor in the blackened interior of the dome provides perfect conditions for manual override image tracking against a reticule, lucky moment capture and then processing. A dark green, battered baseball cap shields my eyes from the light entering the slit. These are all very simple tricks to maximise my progress within my narrow objectives.

Rusted, You do very well!! You and Terry burn up in your observatories and I roast outside. Which one is worse?? :seesaw

Thanks again for the kind words. :bow

Unfortunately, I tend to use far too many words where only a few would do: :D

Not easy to shoot in the heat, Rusted, but you managed it well ! Good results

Hi again Chris, Well at least today the weather has cooled-down somewhat with both rain and thunderstorms here, so i have been able to do some more work in the observatory, getting somewhat-closer - back to Solar-imaging. It has taken far-longer than I thought previously, as the new-computer needed so much programming of just about every imaging and processing program, as well as installing a radar and weather-radar too...

Hopefully tomorrow will allow me to test everything, which will then be followed by getting the Ha and WL cameras and their scopes adjusted for the best (without any NR's too). The Cal-K set-up always works perfectly, so that will help...

I'm also hoping now, to be able to process at the capturing-stage, so like yourself that will help...

Those large monitors make so much difference and ease for the purpose and although I've got plenty of baseball caps, I prefer the Lunt Solar Hat, which really does help at the scopes - particularly during those very hot days too...

Finally, your imaging-results are so good, that if I can get to that stage as yours, I will be more than happy and especially thanks to everybody on SolarChat - who have shown me the way forward...

BEST WISHES & CLEAR SKIES
Regards
Terry
