8-16-2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Taken today from 2:10pm to 2:45pm EDT local time ( US ) from Lowndesville SC. 84F and partly cloudy. Seeing poor. Morning hours were cloudy.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
After considerable tuning and focusing I could see three active region plages. The South-Central disc shows AR12771 with a couple of attending small filaments. To it's SouthEast I see another bright plage with a thinner long wormlike filament. The plage itself looks like a loop of spotty bright beads! If the seeing would allow and if I had the scope with me, the SMII90 would have given a bigger better view. To the north of AR12771 I see another bright plage with no visible filaments. I see only one lone filament on the disc besides the AR associated ones. It's a small dark thing on the NorthEast part of the disc. I see only two proms. A small bright double one on the SW limb and a larger fainter one on the NW limb. Low contrast spicule mottling covers the disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
The only detail I could see was the faint faculae associated with a plage seen in Ha on the SE quad of the disc. No spots. No pores. Not even granulation!!

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks for the report, James.

Going through a typical extended patch of rain/clouds here; so nice to hear what's going on.

Thanks Jochen. That's what happened to me yesterday. Clouds with thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Thanks for your report, James. Sounds like it was tough to see any significant detail.

Interesting report James, sounds like activity is harder to see and dropping now, lets hope it picks up again esp in WL :)

Hydrogen-Alpha wasn't too bad but White Light was really bland. I am back home in Edneyville today and am hoping for clear skies and better seeing.
