Thursday 27-8-2020 Cal-K Experimental Disk-image

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Well at last I have been able to try-out the various modifications within the observatory and its' new computer and programs.

Taken far-longer than I'd hoped, partly due to the intense-heat of over 45-degrees-C recently and now awaiting for some clear-skies.

This morning there was a little opportunity to get this Cak image, before the thin and then thick clouds rolled-over, so a brief attempt at Ha & WL was not successful... This was just a single-frame image, where other imagery is still to be processed including AVI's.

The primary-intention though, is to concentrate on Cak imagery first to try-out various options and download-programs, then when up to some sort of scratch, will follow with Ha and then WL experimentation.

Obviously further work can only occur when the "fluffy-stuff" allows and also more Solar-action too...

Still much to do to get all three-lines of light - worth posting...

CLEAR SKIES
Terry

Thank you Jochen. Just limited action from here as many programs and hardware-items to be trialled, some of which have been advised/mentioned here in the past... It's a learning-curve too...

Terry

Hi James, you could be right, but as the next archive-image shows, that other than using a 0.5focal-reducer, I used to take Cak images such as this,
so it may well be that the not so clear-sky and also non-stable air - this morning, could make the difference.

Cheers
Terry

Hi Terry, the new image even as a single frame is a big step forward.

Thank you Mark.
The new-computer and the two large screens have already helped much to accurately adjust whatever and also in the Sun-light where they barely reflect the back-ground brightness with their matted screens.

It's just the beginning of trying other download programs such as Fire Capture etc., as well as other processing programs which is a bit of a learning-curve for me... Also as with today's image, there wasn't much time to even add the 0.tFR which was used for the archive-image for that FD and as Cal-k is the easiest of the three, so I'll get that corrected first and then the Ha.

Best Wishes
Terry

I wouldn't bother with a focal reducer with CaK, it will only be deleterious to the final image.

Thanks for that advice Mark, so is there another way of getting a FD image as per the archived one of mine 23/3/2016 ??
That is of course assuming the use of the Altair GPCAM with the Lunt 60MM Cak...

I had thought of something similar Mark, but have yet to try such.
Thanks

Thanks Eric and the first-image was taken under poor-seeing, but at least showed that all the new cabling and computer are doing what they should.

Still early-days yet and I know that both the Ha and WL scopes will require quite a bit of work for their improvements, whilst awaiting suitable weather for such work...

CLEAR SKIES
Terry
