Ha Chromosphere 250 mm RCT in poor conditions

Post by Carbon60 »

A blue sky start to the day but already as the season progresses and we move towards the end of summer it's clear that the Sun is moving towards a less then favourable position for viewing from my driveway early in the mornings. The seeing this morning was barely adequate for close views using the 250 mm RCT with the resulting images looking somewhat soft. Here's the best from the crop. After about 30 minutes clouds were condensing right where I didn't want them and the session was over. So much for the weather report which up until yesterday had us believing we were going to get a brilliant sunny morning up until lunchtime.

With so little activity I focused on a little patch of magnetically disturbed hydrogen in the chromosphere, together with a dark filament. This was the only patch I could find over the entire disk.

Still, a very good try, Stu. At least you got some sun: here we are having continuous storms. Hopefully, tomorrow some sun...

Stu:
Even with not the adequate seeing, you got a very nice result.
Best regards,
Eric.

I concur. Very nice result, especially considering the less than optimal conditions.

Pretty good image Stu - that area looked very interesting for a few minutes. I had exactly the same experience this morning with blue sky until 5 minutes after the Sun cleared the big tree in my garden!

Snap!! I had the C11 in the greenhouse last night, woke to blue skies but it takes till 9.30am before the Sun hits the garden floor. We then had this huge continuous cloud over the Pennines which totally blocked the Sun forever, blue everywhere else ;)

Well done for getting an image :bow :hamster: I will try again tomorrow :)

That is a nice image, and you took the best the solar surface has to offer these days!

Not bad Stu! I know what you mean about the sun getting lower. I haven't done any observing for a month till yesterday, and the sun didn't reach my observing pad till 8.30am - this is better than the 10am it would have been previously in the old observing spot. I may switch to the taller pier later in the season to give me a bit more 'reach' if needed.
