A very active (blind-side) N.E.QUADRANT at present

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Looking at SDO, SOHO and STEREO imagery at about 2030hrs/GMT on Tuesday 1/9, it would seem that a CME has occurred/or is about to occur in the N.E.quadrant - just over the border of the limb.

Unfortunately only one of the Stereo satellite-chain is working, so can't verify exactly what and where this activity is occurring, but at a guess within the next two-days, there could well be some visibubble-activity for us to see (hopefully)...

Watch this space (I guess)...

Terry

Thanks for the heads-up. I will keep an eye 👁 on the NE limb for increased activity.

The stereo ahead shows no activity in the NE beyond the limb... https://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/

I think what you're seeing Terry is plasma being held aloft at higher latitudes by cycle 25 magnetic fields - this will manifest as proms on the limb and then filaments on the surface, which is what we've been seeing. So far field strength is sub 1500 Gauss so there are being no sunspots produced, however as can be seen in Ha and CaK there is plage visible. Cycle 25 is getting there.

Thanks Franco and Mark.
There is still much activity in the direction of the N.E., so whatever happens - will happen..

Cheers
Terry
