September 3 2020 Observations.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time 10:45am until noon EDT local time ( US ). Temp 81F at noon. Seeing is maybe just a little above typical. Skies are a clear blue!

Coronado Solarmax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x, 64x and 100x ( Ha )
Filaments are the star of the show today. The polar crown of filaments is still there today. They may have faded a little but in that northern area I can see every one that GONG Cerro Tololo shows! Check out the image for their locations. In addition to this I see a tiny but really dark one in the far south. Strangely it doesn't show up on GONG at all. I don't know what to make of that. When I first started observing it was double but the second component had vanished by noon. As far as proms go they are almost nonexistent. I see a tiny one on the NW limb and may have glimpsed a really faint one on the SW limb. The spicule layer is visible and I can see some of the individual spicules at 100x. I can see some of the large disturbance as a patch of plage as it nears the western limb. The mottles show excellent contrast today and cover the disc as usual.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge. 50x and 100x ( WL )
I can see small faculae near the NW, SW and NE limbs. The NW facula matches up to a plage seen in Ha. I can also see some of the tiny polar faculae in the far north. I see no pores or sunspots. Granulation covers disc.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Trees are becoming a bigger issue as the sun recedes further from the summer solstice.

Indeed that would be a further problem, so my chain-saw is a avalabubble for both yourself and Rainer too...

Thanks for your report, James.

Obstructions certainly become a greater challenge as the season progresses. You should take Terry up on his offer. :)

Super report James, I suspect your system is more on band than the GONG image and so you were able to see the tiny filament in the south. Most probably this, or you had a dust bunny
